In the Blues - mid/hi 70's
Lat/Lon 45.32N 118.27W
After three and a half months in Boise, it's time to hit the road again in search of cooler temperatures.
We decided our best bet for cooler temperatures is the Pacific Northwest. So yesterday we headed west on I84 to Oregon. Our "plan" for now, (our plans are always subject to change), is to spend a little time in the Portland area, Scappoose, actually. Charley wants to check out the gyrocopters that are built there. For those who may not know,
THIS is a gyrocopter.
While in the PDX area, I want to visit my friend Teri, and go see friends at the garden center where I worked, Dennis 7 Dees.
~ so ~

In keeping with Charley's 'retirement philosophy', we left Boise about 11am yesterday, made 3 rest stops, and then stopped for the evening about 4pm. This crazy, fast paced lifestyle is gonna kill me!
Up near the top of the Blue Mountains is a campground called Emigrant Pass State Park. I've driven past it a hundred times crossing the Blues, but have never stopped there before. We decided to give it a try!

High 70's in the Blue Mountains
Emigrant Pass is a pretty campground. Heavily wooded, clean and well kept, and COOL temps!
Aaaawww,...
But the campground is near the I 84 freeway and even tho we got the site furthest from the road, it was still quite loud. Such a shame, because visually it is beautiful there.
I did, however, hear a lot of Swainson's Thrushes! One of my favorite things about the Oregon woods, is the abundance of Swainson's Thrushes. They have such a cool song. They sound like they are whistling down a culvert.
Listen to his pretty song.

(No, I did not take this video)
I love all the little flowers that bloom on the forest floor. They are so tiny and delicate.
This one is called 'self heal', (prunella vulgarism). Native tribes boiled it and put it on cuts and scrapes.
This is 'twin flower' (linnaea borealis). Although it is tiny, it is very fragrant!
I also found huckleberries! Red & Black huckleberries!
Life cereal and huckleberries for breakfast!!!
YUMMY!!!

Allll riiight. a blog. This is so lovely, peaceful ( or not) . Try to rest sometimes from you wild rides and fast style of living. Or is it half fast !
