We stopped in Libby, Montana to see Charley's sister, Teddie and her hubby Ron.    Libby is a neat little town.  We stayed at the Volunteer Fire Dept Memorial Park. (Below)

Just minutes after stepping out of the Whale, yesterday morning, we heard an elk bugle.  I love western Montana.

Teddie took us out to Kootenai Falls.

The Kootenai River is a large, wide river.   But here, it narrows down to go through a steep, rocky canyon.

A tremendous amount of water is forced through a very narrow gap, resulting in some hellatious falls and rapids.

Kootanai Falls has several 'steps' where the water falls down to a lower level.  Each one is about 10 to 20 ft.

Part of the movie, "The River Wild", (Merril Streep and Kevin Bacon), was filmed here.  They needed a NASTY stretch of water for the 'gauntlet' scene, and used Kootanai Falls.
I can see why.

To give you an idea of size, those tiny figures standing on the cliff above the river are Charley and Teddie.

The water roared so loudly we almost had to yell to each other to communicate.
But, it wasn't all violent rapids.  The trail to the river was quite peaceful and serene.

Coming Soon:  Glacier Park!
We will be staying in Columbia Falls, MT for 4 days while we explore Glacier Park!  Woohoo!

  1. Does that river flow into Yellowstone? We saw something similar when we went through Montana into Yellowstone. Glad you're having such a good time!

  2. Those "steps" and rushing river pics are so beautiful. I love woodsy places--they are so peaceful and still pristine. It all smells so delicious.

Enjoy Glacier too. I haven't seen it but have seen pics and it too is something !

  3. Wowsers! The beauty there is amazing. Just a quick side note, could you refrain from using words like "hellatious?" I'm a simpleton and when I'm in a hurry it takes extra time to Google big words.

    Keep on truckin'!
