Southeast Montana - land of the Crow, the Cheyenne and at one point, the Souix tribes.
The scenery has certainly changed.
SE Montana has the rolling hills similar to the Paloose.
But it also has sharp bluffs and random pointed 'hills' that pop up out of the landscape with no apparent pattern or reason.
There is a lot of clay here that turns the hillsides pink and the dirt roads a rich red.
(There's something about the layers of coal in the ground that turns the layers of rock above it red, but I won't bore you with my fascination with geology.)
I 'borrowed' these two photos from the internet because I couldn't get a decent picture of the red roads as we 'flew' past.
We stopped at Little Bighorn Nat'l Monument, (formerly called Custer Nat'l Monument), and I learned a LOT about what happened there. Will share that later today or tomorrow.

Verry interesting. Can't wait for our history lesson tomorrow. (I don't want to spoil anything, but I know how it ends----Custer gets killed.) ooops, now I did ruin the surprise.
