These great folks, Don and Kati from Austin, TX, were our 'neighbors' at Hi Valley RV Park in Boise.  The dogs are Montana, (Monte), and Angus.

I just want everyone to know that Don and Kati should get the "Doggy Parents of the Year" award.  While traveling around the west, one of their dogs, Monte, injured his spine somehow, and his back legs became paralyzed.  Don and Kati brought him to Boise where surgery was done on his back.  The vets told them that they didn't know if it would work, or if Monte would ever walk again.  Prognosis didn't sound real great..., but they love their dogs so much that they had to try.

They were stuck in Boise for over a month during Monte's recovery.  After a week at the vet, Monte was able to come home to their RV.  Monte had a sling under his back half that Don dutifully held up as Monte tried to regain movement  in his back legs.  Monte also went to physical therapy twice a week.

Every day, day after day, we'd see Don and Kati taking the dogs out, Don always holding up Monte's sling.  Each day we were amazed at how much more movement and strength Monte would get in his back legs.  After about two weeks, we saw them occasionally taking the sling off Monte and letting him walk a little on his own.  His butt would flop this way and that, making him look like a drunk sailor. But by the time we left to head north, Monte was trotting around in the park and Don and Kati were making plans to head home to TX.

Kati and Don were fun, wonderful people, but their optimism and devotion toward Monte's recovery was simply inspiring.

One of the best things about this vagabond lifestyle, is the wonderful people you meet along the way.
